Last week, members of the Delta Millworks team spent the day volunteering with TreeFolks, a Central Texas nonprofit dedicated to reforesting communities and restoring native ecosystems. Since 1989, TreeFolks has empowered thousands of volunteers to grow stronger, more resilient communities through tree planting, reforestation, and environmental education.

Together, we rolled up our sleeves to help maintain the organization’s new TreeFolks Nursery, which will serve as a vital hub for cultivating the next generation of native trees and shrubs. From assembling hoop houses and shade structures to sifting soil, preparing plant beds, sorting and cleaning seeds, and sowing young plants, our team joined the TreeFolks staff and other volunteers for a hands-on day of learning—one that deepened our appreciation for the time, care, and precision required to propagate woody species native to our region.

TreeFolks’ impact extends far beyond Austin: the organization has helped plant more than three million trees across Central Texas, restoring floodplains, reforesting burned land, and enhancing urban canopies. Their work shows how small, local actions—like a single volunteer day—can translate into meaningful, long-term environmental change.
Beyond the tangible work, the experience reinforced the values of environmental stewardship, craftsmanship, and community that run deep at Delta. The new nursery will eventually be home to thousands of trees that will find their way into Central Texas landscapes and restore biodiversity, sequester carbon, and shade our shared environment for generations to come.
“At Delta, we’re deeply committed to responsible forestry practices and take great care to ensure that every aspect of our sourcing and milling contributes to a sustainable, circular economy,” says Delta Millworks President, Robbie Davis. “Taking that commitment out of the mill and into the field was a really rewarding opportunity for our team. It was incredible to be part of the early stages of tree cultivation, which form the foundation for everything we do. We’re so grateful to TreeFolks for leading this important work here in Central Texas, right in our backyard, and Delta remains committed to supporting local organizations like theirs for years to come.”
Delta has long championed sustainability through responsibly sourced wood products and investment into renewable manufacturing practices. We’re proud to have aligned with a likeminded organization and are grateful for the opportunity to support a cause that’s helping our region grow.
