What happens when an ancient building technique is What happens when an ancient building technique is reimagined for a contemporary mountain home? The Lookout explores that question through a carefully curated material palette and a design approach rooted in both innovation and tradition. Against the dramatic backdrop of the Rockies, the project had to stand out and showcase how craftsmanship and performance can work together to create architecture that gives a new look to the beautiful surroundings.

Above Salt Lake City, Millcreek Rim is shaped by i Above Salt Lake City, Millcreek Rim is shaped by its site first. The home steps into the hillside, opening toward the valley and Mount Olympus so the landscape becomes the focus throughout.⁠

The material palette is kept restrained, Accoya Smooth Coastline, ThermoWood Spruce Smooth Sand Dollar, and Accoya Color Grey decking, selected for how they age naturally and keep their presence without asking for attention.⁠

The advantage of keeping it all under one roof? Fe The advantage of keeping it all under one roof? Fewer layers between the work and the people responsible for it. That’s how details get noticed, problems get solved, and quality stays consistent.
“The sense is of a package wrapped in ribbons of w “The sense is of a package wrapped in ribbons of wood.” That might be our favorite description of this project. The new Doris Duke Theatre uses wood in a way that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its surroundings, with bands of texture and tone that shift across the facade. We were honored to contribute the wood siding to a building that proves timber can be both innovative and expressive.⁠
