Hemlock VG and Western Red Cedar working together across a museum exterior is a material decision that earns its place twice. First in how it reads against the building's architecture, warm, textured and continuous. Then in how it performs over time in conditions that would compromise lesser materials.

For a building that serves as a cultural anchor in its community, that kind of durability matters as much as the aesthetics. This one does both.

The barnwood texture introduces shadow and movement across the facade without competing with the architecture. Up close it reads as craft. From the street it reads as intention. That balance is difficult to get right, and it starts with material selection.

Accoya is one of the few wood products we work with that holds its own in nearly any climate. Dimensionally stable, resistant to rot and decay, and built for a longer service life than most alternatives on the market. Choosing it is not just an aesthetic decision. It is a responsible one.

Most wood moves. It swells, shrinks and eventually Most wood moves. It swells, shrinks and eventually gives in to the conditions around it.

Accoya doesn’t behave that way. The acetylation process changes the wood at a cellular level, making it resistant to moisture absorption and biological decay without relying on toxic preservatives.

It’s the kind of material that performs the way it looks. Stable, refined and built for the long run.
