EYRC’s Takashi Yanai Selects Shou Sugi Ban Cladding for Silver Lake Residence

Clad in our Western Red Cedar SSB siding, this home in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood was recently featured in Architectural Digest. As writer Fred A. Bernstein notes, “Boxenbaum admired Yanai’s architecture, but he envisioned something very different from his parents’ assemblage of crisp white and gray cubes. Indeed, he wanted his house to be black, in part so it would blend in with the scenery.”
To achieve this effect, architect Takashi Yanai—a partner at Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects (EYRC)—selected our Direwolf colorway. The dark, charred siding allows the home to recede into the hillside while maintaining a strong architectural presence.
