Before the early 1900’s, nearly one-quarter of North American hardwood forests were Chestnut and most barns and homes east of the Mississippi were built of wood sourced from these forests. Known as “the king of trees”, Chestnut was highly valued for its superlative qualities and natural beauty. A fungal blight that began in 1904 wiped out most of these Chestnut forests, and one of America’s most pervasive building materials was nearly forgotten.
Delta Millworks is proud to reintroduce Chestnut to the North American market as a sustainable design resource for interior and exterior applications. We have sourced raw material from FSC certified forests in France and are bringing Chestnut home.
Our French-cut engineered flooring features a combination of both vertical and cathedral-grain French Chestnut for unsurpassed beauty and strength. Delta’s custom burns and finishes make each piece of chestnut flooring unique.
Delta’s finger-jointed chestnut decking offers few knots, dimensional stability and long board lengths. We offer a wide selection of finishes, but if left unfinished your deck will develop a beautiful silver patina.
